The alleged racist comments made by NBA owner Donald sterling are damaging to him, his family, employees, and his brand. I often coach leaders on how important it is to inspire people, and to never give a person a reason not to perform for you. Real or perceived, Mr. Sterling has given his coach and his team a reason not to perform. Like the NBA, our customers and team are diversified with many cultures and ethnicities being represented. Negative comments and quality of work and service hurts our customers who in turn are the lifeblood of our business. As leaders our jobs are difficult enough without stepping on your own oxygen cord. Hold everyone accountable to their goals by coaching and teaching. Never forget to respect everyone, all the time. Learn a lesson from Donald sterling “you get what you put out, and it will come back”
